Russanne Bucci: Social Studies

Ms. Bucci has been a social studies teacher at the Arts Academy in the Woods since the school opened in the fall of 2001. She was drawn to AAW because she remembers how important theatre, small classes, and innovative teachers were to her experience during high school (at Dominican).

Russanne Bucci earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from the Residential College of the University of Michigan and has a Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in Intercultural Communication from the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Bucci completed her teaching certification at Wayne State University. She is also a certified trainer in Cross-Cultural Dialogue through the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) and in Conflict Resolution from the National Association for Community Mediation (NACM).

In addition to classroom teaching Ms. Bucci has extensive experience as an educator working with students, teachers and other adults in the areas of diversity, team building and service learning. Before teaching she lived and worked in Philadelphia as a community organizer and Public Radio Producer, doing work for which she received a First Place Award for Journalistic Excellence from the Public Radio News Directors Association and for Community Education from the American Lung Association. She was selected by Rotary International to participate in a cultural exchange in Rio Grande du Sul, Brazil and received the Congressional Medal of Merit in Community Service.
